The Delhi Police have arrested 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi for allegedly sharing toolkit (social media document which explains an issue and action plans) related to the farmers’ protests against farm laws on social media. She is part of a climate activist group called Fridays for Future, which was started by Greta Thunberg in 2018. Ravi started the India wing of Fridays for Future in 2019 and heads the organisation in the country.
The principal basis for the allegations against Ms Ravi is that she was involved in framing and editing a “toolkit”, which outlined measures to protest against farm laws; that she provided activist Greta Thunberg the “toolkit”; that the violence on January 26 copied the “action plan” in the toolkit; and this also had the involvement of Khalistani groups.
Activists believe her arrest is part of a larger crackdown on all forms of dissent in the country.
